Sydney Adventist Hospital (the San) launched its annual Pink October campaign on October 1, bringing staff, clinicians and community members together to raise awareness of breast cancer and support those affected by the disease.

Organised by San Foundation for the fourth consecutive year, the initiative encourages hospital staff to wear pink throughout October and participate in activities promoting awareness and recognising patients, families and others impacted by breast cancer.

This year’s campaign began with a gathering in the hospital’s Healing Garden, attended by Adventist HealthCare Limited CEO Brett Goods and San Integrated Cancer Centre clinical director Professor Gavin Marx. Activities included messages of hope and a Pink October duck challenge.

The launch was followed by an evening screening of the documentary Conquering Breast Cancer and a clinician panel discussion, with 135 people registered to attend.

The initiative also highlights the importance of breast screening and early detection.

Mr Goods encouraged women to prioritise regular breast screening. “If you’re not up to date, please commit during October to actually get a booking and make it happen in terms of screening,” he said.

In addition to awareness activities, the San Integrated Cancer Centre provides multidisciplinary care, bringing together specialists, nurses and support teams to assist patients throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery, including practical and emotional support.

Through donor contributions, San Foundation also funds cancer support programs and initiatives that complement the hospital’s clinical services.
