A team of young adults from Teahupo’o Seventh-day Adventist Church, in collaboration with literature evangelists, led a New Testament distribution initiative during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The initiative took place in the village of Teahupo’o, Tahiti, where the surfing competition was held. The team, working with the Adventist Church in French Polynesia, distributed copies of the New Testament in English and French to athletes and visitors.
Despite logistical challenges and access restrictions, the organisers were able to reach a large number of people during the event, distributing a total of 500 copies.
In addition to distributing the New Testament, the team presented copies to influential figures attending the event, including the mayors of Teva i Uta and Teahupo’o, and other local leaders. National figures, such as the High Commissioner of the French Republic, Polynesian members of parliament, and the minister delegate for overseas territories, also received copies of the New Testament and Ellen White’s The Great Hope.
Pastor Clive Tefaatau, director of youth ministries for French Polynesia Mission, described the initiative as an “unprecedented missionary experience” for the young people involved.
“They had the opportunity to convey a message of peace and divine love in the prestigious setting of the Olympic Games,” he added.
