Tributes have poured in from across the South Pacific following the death of Linda Damaro, who was supporting the Solomon Islands for Christ evangelistic campaign (July 5-18) with her husband, Pastor Kadasa Damaro.

Mrs Damaro, from the Central Papua Conference (CPC) in Papua New Guinea, died in the early hours of Friday, July 17, while accompanying her husband during the evangelistic campaign. According to a statement from CPC, the couple had been scheduled to return to Papua New Guinea on July 20. Church leaders said arrangements are being made with the Solomon Islands Mission and Papua New Guinea Union Mission to repatriate Mrs Damaro’s body to Port Moresby.

In a statement, CPC said Mrs Damaro “fell asleep in Jesus” while “on the mission with her husband” and asked church members to remember Pastor Damaro and his family in prayer.

The Trans Pacific Union Mission (TPUM) Discipleship Department also paid tribute to Mrs Damaro, describing her as “a faithful companion who stood beside [her husband] in ministry” and saying her support of the Solomon Islands for Christ campaign was “a beautiful testimony of devotion, faith and selfless service.”

Mrs Damaro was also remembered during the Sabbath worship service of the Solomon Islands for Christ campaign at Maranatha Hall in Honiara, where church leaders and attendees expressed their condolences to Pastor Damaro and his family.

Since news of her passing was announced, church members and leaders across Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands have shared messages of sympathy on social media.

“Our hearts are with Pastor Kadasa Damaro and family . . . our prayers are with you all at this time of sorrow,” wrote Robinson Diosi Aenasi on behalf of church members serving at Russell Island District.

Jentar Saitoha remembered Mrs Damaro as someone who “lost [her] life while in His service”, adding, “May God comfort the family who mourn the loss of their beloved.”
