More than 400 Adventist teachers in the New Guinea Islands and southern regions of Papua New Guinea have been trained to improve the standard of Adventist education in the country.
The teachers were trained during Adventist Teachers’ Summits held at Kambubu Adventist Secondary School and Mt Diamond Adventist School recently. They received certificates after attending the three-day Quality Adventist Schools Pacific (QASP) program.
South Pacific Division education director Dr Elisapesi Manson, who ran the training sessions, presented on various topics, including “The Adventist Teacher”, “A Quality Adventist School”, “Rationale and Commitment”, “School Improvement” and “QASP Guiding Principles”.
Along with group discussions and presentations, the teachers were also tasked with starting work on improving their schools and preparing for accreditation.
Dr Manson presented devotionals on parables in the Bible and used them to share the message of quality Adventist schools and teachers.
At the Southern Region summit, held at Mt Diamond Adventist Secondary School, Dr Manson spoke about the parable of the lost sheep and drew lessons on the special character of Adventist education.
“The shepherd’s willingness to look for one sheep is a good example for Adventist teachers,” Dr Manson said.
She said teachers must be inclusive and student-centred, adding that they had a redemptive ministry.
Many teachers expressed their gratefulness for the training, adding they would do their best to raise the standard of Adventist education in their schools.
