Christ in the South Pacific
Stories of Mission, Faith, Courage and Calling
Edited by Tracey Bridcutt

We sometimes think of mission stories primarily as things that happened a long time ago or somewhere far away. But mission also happens here and now—and these stories can be much more current and closer to home. Christ in the South Pacific collects more than 40 of these stories from our beautiful and varied part of the world. This book highlights both the opportunities and challenges of mission in our region.

Including some highlights from the “Papua New Guinea for Christ” evangelistic campaign in 2024, Christ in the South Pacific also shares stories of everyday faithfulness and mission. From meaningful interactions in big cities to some of the most remote parts of the South Pacific and extending beyond our region around the world, mission takes many forms, but these story show God and His people at work to share hope and healing today.

Launched at the recent “South Pacific for Christ” launch event in Brisbane, this new book is intended to inspire readers to our own calling to mission. In his foreword, South Pacific Division president Pastor Glenn Townend says that he is “inspired to go and make a difference.” Briefly sharing a story of one his mission interactions, he reflects, “Who knows what God could do is we were to use our gifts, talents, hobbies and pastimes to give, share and speak the hope we have in Jesus.”

The stories in Christ in the South Pacific might be described as patchy, representing so many different voices, cultures and places, but each of these patches are sewn together to form a patchwork of South Pacific mission. We are reminded that none of us have to do it all, that there are members of our church family in each of those places making their contributions, but we are also challenged to play our part in our place and with our voices, opportunities and resources. And that is how we write our chapter in this larger story of God and His mission. Christ in the South Pacific is available from Adventist bookshops in Australia and New Zealand, or online.
