The Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) Big Camp will go ahead, following a late-night announcement from Conference president Pastor Alban Matohiti.

In a video message posted to Facebook after a committee meeting, Pastor Matohiti confirmed the event is not cancelled, despite significant storm damage at the campsite in Jindabyne.

Uncertainty had surrounded the camp after a wild windstorm swept through the area on Thursday night, forcing the South New South Wales Conference to end its Big Camp early. The storm flattened the big tent, teen tent and juniors tent, which were also to be used for the GSC event.

“Big Camp for Greater Sydney Conference is going to happen—the camp is not cancelled, we will go ahead,” Pastor Matohiti said.

He acknowledged the extent of the damage and said cleanup efforts are underway. As a result, the program will not begin tomorrow as had originally been planned.

“At this point in time we are hoping that it’s going to be Tuesday night, but if not possible definitely we will make it happen by Wednesday,” he said.

He added that the camp will look different due to the circumstances, “but we aim to have a blessed time together”.

Attendees who have registered will receive updates via email, with additional information to be shared on the Conference website.
