Faith on Campus: Sharing Hope at UNSW Orientation Week

The Greater Sydney Conference’s Public Campus Ministry (PCM) team shared literature and UP&GOs with students on campus during Orientation Week (O-Week) on May 26.

Acccording to GSC youth director, Pastor Dejan Stojkovic, the young people ministered with open hearts, ready to share their hope, faith and message of Jesus.

Representing Adventist Students on Campus (ASOC) club—Australia’s official PCM movement—the young Adventist team connected with students who were eager to explore faith and find community. Some of the contacts they made were Adventist students who came specifically looking for them, ready to join ASOC and reconnect with a supportive, Christ-centred network. “Others came from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, genuinely curious to learn more about Adventism and the story we represent,” said Pastor Stojkovic.

“One unforgettable moment came when a student approached the table, and I assumed he just wanted a drink,” shared Pastor Stojkovic. “But he quietly said, ‘I’m actually not a big fan of this . . . but could I please have a Bible?’ [The encounter was] a simple yet profound reminder that people are searching for something deeper—and that God is always working beyond what we see.”

“Sometimes we forget that part of our calling is simply to be faithful—to step out of our comfort zones, show up for our communities, and share the story of Jesus with those around us,” said Pastor Stojkovic. “The Adventist Church is not about being inward-focused, but about being outward-focused. This week at UNSW was a powerful example of what happens when we show up with open hearts and willing hands.”

Pastor Stojkovic paid tribute to the student ASOC leadership team, including Angellene D’Huilar and Sunshine Audrey, who helped create a warm and welcoming witness on campus.

“Please keep this amazing team in your prayers as they continue ministering on this important campus,” said Pastor Stojkovic. “If you’re studying in Sydney, we’d love to connect you with this movement and help you find your place in a faith community that’s passionate about Jesus. And if you’re studying anywhere else—know this: there’s likely a local church, a local conference, or even a pastor just around the corner who would love to reconnect with you and walk alongside you in your journey of faith.

“Please keep our team—and every student we met—in your prayers. God is moving on our campuses, and this is just the beginning.”
