Members of the 15 Mile Seventh-day Adventist Church in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, celebrated their first anniversary in February 2026, reflecting on a year of spiritual growth, youth development and progress toward a permanent place of worship.
The congregation was established in February 2025 after transitioning from 17 Mile John’s Foundation Church. A committed group of members relocated to 15 Mile with a shared desire to continue the church’s mission in the new community.
The worship site had previously operated as a small group during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, when Adventist families gathered locally for Sabbath services. That small group later paved the way for the establishment of the 15 Mile church in 2025.
In its early months, members worshipped under a tree before building a temporary bamboo shelter covered with canvas. Despite limited resources, members remained faithful in attendance and fellowship.
Under the leadership of minister Sinias Ray, together with associate elder David Aina and senior elder Barro Kirupana, construction of a permanent church building began in 2025. Although the land is not church-owned, members contributed labour and financial support in faith. The building remains under construction.
Significant spiritual milestones were recorded during the first year. On November 29, 2025, the church conducted its first Pathfinder and Adventurer Investiture Service, investing 43 Pathfinders and 36 Adventurers, along with three intending Master Guides.
On February 20, the church also held its first Adventist Youth Ministries (AYM) Induction Ceremony, dedicating young members to active service.
Community outreach formed part of the church’s mission. Women’s Ministry members supported families during times of bereavement and assisted mothers with newborn babies. The AYM department organised a clean-up at the 15 Mile Police Station and visited young prisoners, sharing food and prayer.
Pastor Sinias Ray said the anniversary reflects God’s guidance over the past year.
“Like the memorial stones in Joshua 4, this anniversary reminds us of how God has led us and assures us that He will continue to guide us as we fulfil the Great Commission,” he said.
As the congregation looks ahead, members remain focused on completing the church building and continuing to serve the 15 Mile community.
