More than 100 Adventist Youth Ministries (AYM) leaders from the 15 organised churches and their branches of Kokopo District in East New Britain Province, New Britain New Ireland Mission (NBNIM), Papua New Guinea, held a weekend AYM Leadership Training on March 13–15 with the theme: “Equip To Impact” at the Pioneers Memorial Hall on Matupit Island. The program featured sessions led by Kokopo AYM district coordinators along with NBNIM Youth Ministries director, Pastor Roy Tukar.
The program was officially opened on Friday evening with a message from guest speaker, Kokopo district director, Minister Punga Junior. In his opening sermon, he stated; “Success of leadership lies through obedience to the Scriptures”.
The Sabbath service was taken by NBNIM Youth director, Pastor Tukar. He urged the leaders to depend on Jesus as their guide. “Jesus Christ is our great Master Guide to lead us home. God equips those who are willing, so that they would impact the lives of many,” he said.
The afternoon session featured Pastor Andrew Anis who took participants through basic hermeneutics and biblical interpretation. He emphasised the importance of feasting on God’s word daily, telling attendees to study God’s Word systematically because a lot of the people have been missing out on Biblical knowledge in the church of God. “There is a total absence of the word of God in the minds of youths today,” he said.
One of the attendees shared that they were all blessed and encouraged through the sessions, along with the morning and evening devotions.
The youth coordinator for the Kokopo district, John P Nungu, in his closing remarks asked all the AYM leaders to iron out the AYM program structures in the district in a rightful way, thus impacting the young people who have ventured into a lot of challenges.
The weekend program ended successfully and the leaders were equipped to serve in their various churches.
