More than 300 children and young people from Maranatha Adventist Youth Ministries (AYM) Club at Meltan Adventist Church in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea, celebrated Global Youth Day and Global Children’s Day on March 15 with a community outreach initiative in Sivasat and Sule villages.
The event featured the “Bucket Ministries” project, where participants distributed 45 buckets filled with essential supplies, including soap, oil, clothing, Bibles, and Christian literature, to families in need. Youth also shared messages of hope, prayed with villagers, and supported a community worship service led by the children’s ministries team.
AYM team leader Elaine Okove expressed her appreciation for the children’s involvement. “It was inspiring to see them boldly share God’s word in unfamiliar communities,” she said.
Local leaders welcomed the initiative. Sivasat village leader Anne Williams invited the Adventist Church to establish a branch church in the community. Meanwhile, in Sule village, residents highlighted a lack of clean water, leading AYM members to propose a rainwater catchment project.
In addition to evangelism, the youth also addressed practical community needs. On Sunday, March 16, Ambassador boys mobilised to dig a pit toilet for Sivasat villagers.
AYM leader Nelson Ralph shared that the event opened doors for connections with the community. “We invited villagers to the Youth Week of Prayer, providing transport for them. On the first night, 41 non-Adventists attended, and many continued coming,” he said.
Meltan Adventist Church is now praying for Sivasat and Sule villages, with plans for future impact projects, church planting and disciple-making initiatives.
