The South Queensland Conference (SQC) held its 77th constituency meeting from August 13 to 14. Throughout the session, live surveys were conducted to gain demographic information, as well as member perspectives about church life and mission.

SQC president Pastor Brett Townend and chief financial officer Scott Hopkins were reappointed in their roles. Pastor Joseph Maticic was announced as the new Conference secretary, replacing Pastor Colin Renfrew.

“I am looking forward to serving with a new team and seeing what God has in store for the work of His Church,” said Pastor Maticic.

Reports were received from various departments, including a report from the new Church Support and Development team (CSD) which highlighted that 3.5 per cent of tithe has been allocated to local church evangelism for the next four years. This can be used for community service projects such as StormCo, school week of worship, as well as traditional evangelistic outreach.

According to Pastor Townend, a touching point of the meetings was when Pastor Mel Lemke’s reports was shared.

Mel passed away tragically and was laid to rest the Tuesday before the constituency meeting. Mel was a champion for youth, school chaplaincy and the collaboration between church and school for the progress of mission. He is a great loss to the Church in South Queensland and Australia,” said Pastor Townend.
