A remote Papua New Guinea island community is learning about Jesus through a simple, easy-to-use Bible study program that helps to answer some of life’s challenging questions.
The Bible Discovery Reading program has been introduced to residents of Koil Island by Sepik Mission pastors Misikaram Guguna and Edson Onka. The pastors were trained in how to implement the program by South Pacific Division Discipleship Ministries Team leader Dr Leigh Rice and experienced church planter Dr Peter Roennfeldt.
Ten Bible Discovery Reading groups have now started on the island. Some of the attendees have also started coming to church.
“The Lord is doing great things on this island that have never been seen and experienced before,” Pastor Guguna said.
“Bible Discovery Reading and discipleship-making training have transformed the results of the Church in this particular area.”
Koil Island is one of five small islands, known as the Schouten Islands, in the East Sepik Province.
In September 2017, the Papua New Guinea Union Mission youth department distributed 200 World Changers Bibles for disciple-making in the Schouten Islands. Young people on Koil Island received 100 Bibles.
