The Tweed Valley Adventist College (NSW) community raised more than $A14,000 during its annual SCENT Concert on July 30, with proceeds supporting this year’s Year 11 service trip to Vanuatu.
The concert has been the college’s largest annual fundraiser since it began in 2011. Named for being a “scent” to the world, being “sent” by God and giving “cents” to support mission, the event has helped fund Year 11 mission trips to Fiji and, since 2015, Vanuatu.
This year’s funds will purchase materials and resources for service projects completed alongside a local primary school community in Vanuatu later this year. Proceeds will not contribute towards student travel costs.
The evening attracted around 180 people and featured musical performances from students, staff and members of the local church community.
One of the night’s highlights came when a group of male teachers and senior students performed the Heritage Singers classic Gotta Do Right. After enthusiastic calls for an encore, organisers challenged the audience to raise an additional $A2,000 to bring the group back to the stage. Attendees quickly met the target, boosting the night’s fundraising total.
Tweed Valley College administrative assistant Teresa Smith said the response reflected the generosity of the school and church communities.
“Every ticket purchased, every meal enjoyed and every donation given helps provide practical resources for our students to serve children and families in Vanuatu. We are deeply grateful for everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success,” she said.
