Dr Damir Kušen, Croatian ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, recently came to Sydney for the sole purpose of attending a concert at Dundas Croatian Seventh-day Adventist Church on April 14.

The sacred concert was held as a memorial of Croatian pastor Frederik Miler, brother of Dundas pastor Edvard Miler. Frederik lost his battle with bone marrow cancer in July 2017.

“[Frederik] was not only a pastor and a writer but a talented songwriter and musician whose songs have touched thousands of people around the world,” said Pastor Edvard Miler.

To honour Frederik’s legacy, Edvard organised for groups from Croatian churches in Melbourne and Brisbane to perform in a concert singing Frederik’s original Christian songs. Marleta Fong from Waitara Adventist Church sang two of Frederik’s English songs.

Dr Kušen again expressed his appreciation for Frederik’s music. On an earlier occasion, he had invited Edvard to perform Frederik’s song Ribar (The Fisherman) for Croatian president Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović during her state visit to Australia in August 2017.

Other notable people besides Dr Kušen attended the concert including Mr Luka Budak (head of the Department of Croatian Studies at Macquarie University) and the crew from Croatian National Radio and Television who recorded the program.

(L-R): Mr Luka Budak, Melissa Markey, Dr Damir Kušen and Pastor Edvard Miler.
