Mother-of-two Jo Marx has been inspired to help cancer sufferers after the disease claimed the lives of her father and a close friend.
Understanding the shock, uncertainty and isolation that cancer causes, the 48-year-old has organised a free public forum at Sydney Adventist Hospital, which will connect cancer patients, their family and friends to cancer services.
“With both my father’s and my friend’s death from cancer I’ve learned personally how fragile life is,” said Mrs Marx, whose husband, Gavin, is director of cancer services at the San.
“Cancer can be devastating and confronting.
“Cancer patients need to be equipped with the right and relevant tools . . . so they can pick what they need and feel empowered that they are helping themselves.”
The forum will be held this Sunday (March 18) from 9am to noon at the San. There will be free presentations by psychologists, counselling, clothing, wig and beauty suppliers, cancer charities and meditation and relaxation experts.
