More than 4,040 people were baptised during Fiji for Christ, a nationwide evangelistic campaign held from August 16–29.
The campaign involved 135 international speakers and 57 local speakers, including Papua New Guinea Union Mission president Pastor Danny Philip and General Conference chief financial officer Paul Douglas.
The program included Bible meetings, prayer, health and family-life presentations, community service and personal visitation. Running in conjunction with supporting ministries such as 10,000 Toes, evangelism teams sought to minister to Fijians’ physical and mental, as well as their spiritual, needs.
With the main campaign concluded, Fiji Mission (FM) is now focusing on follow-up and discipleship for newly baptised members. Local churches will provide ongoing support through Bible studies, small groups, Sabbath school, health ministry and other church activities.
“We pray that every new believer will grow in Jesus, every church will stay engaged in mission and every member will keep sharing the hope we have in Christ,” said Trans Pacific Union Mission vice-president Pastor Clive Tefaatau.
FM president Pastor Epeli Saukuru thanked local members, volunteers and visiting speakers for their involvement in the campaign. “I am very thankful to our pastors, church leaders, members, young people, children, schools, volunteers and everyone who played a part,” he said.
“I am especially thankful for the tremendous support of our international speakers and our General Conference and South Pacific Division leaders. They prayed with us, travelled to our communities, preached the Word [and] encouraged our people. When God’s people come together and trust Him, He can do great things.”
Although the nationwide campaign officially concluded on August 29, evangelistic meetings are continuing at seven sites: Nairai, Koro, Vanuabalavu, Ba, Naboro, Nadurubua and Lanasa (Valevonu).
