A cooking demonstration held as part of the Solomon Islands for Christ outreach has sparked strong interest in plant-based cooking, with participants immediately putting what they learned into practice.

Dr Geraldine Przybylko, director of Adventist Health at the South Pacific Division, led an initial cooking demonstration for 10 people. The response was so enthusiastic that participants requested a larger session so more people could learn how to prepare healthy meals using plant-based ingredients.

The follow-up cooking demonstration attracted more than 40 church and community members. During the session, Dr Przybylko demonstrated a range of simple, nutritious recipes while explaining the health benefits of different foods, including vitamins, antioxidants and the importance of eating a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables.

“They put it straight into practice that same evening,” Dr Przybylko shared. “They cooked for us afterwards—a variety of dishes.

“They did a great job. It was tasty, colourful and showed they had really taken on board what they had learned.”

Dr Przybylko said many locals already knew plant-based foods were healthy but lacked practical knowledge about how to combine them into nutritious, everyday meals.

“I challenged them, ‘How many of you will try one dish this week?’ and pretty much everyone put their hand up,” she said.

The cooking demonstration formed part of the health ministry supporting the Solomon Islands for Christ evangelistic campaign, equipping community members with practical skills to improve their health and wellbeing through simple lifestyle changes.
