Sepsis occurs when the body responds to an infection, and in doing so injures its own tissues and organs. According to the World Health Organisation, it affects an estimated 30 million people globally each year, potentially leading to 6 million deaths. In this week’s Health Matters, Professor Simon Finfer from Sydney Adventist Hospital discusses sepsis, its symptoms and the treatment options available.
