Sydney Adventist Hospital is collecting gifts for its first-ever Regifting Fair to raise vital funds for a women’s shelter in its local community.

With more than 1700 female staff, the San is keen to join the global celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8) by donating to the Hornsby Women’s Shelter, which provides accommodation and refuge for women facing challenges, including ill health, unemployment, homelessness and domestic violence.

The San is encouraging people to donate gifts they received at Christmas but will not use, are not needed or to their taste, but which if donated will continue the spirit of Christmas for a good cause.

The monies raised will be donated before International Women’s Day and the San’s administration will match funds raised up to $1000.

Gifts to be sold at the Regifting Fair must be new and saleable, complete and presentable. They can include perfumes, books, toys, ornaments, homewares, cosmetics, beauty and skincare products, electrical items, camping or sporting gear, clothing and accessories or other items.

San human resources director Melva Lee said sale prices at the fair will be modest in the interests of selling all stock and raising much-needed funds for the shelter.

“Sometimes presents don’t suit or are not needed,” she said. “This is a great opportunity to remain true to the spirit of goodwill in which gifts were given, while making a practical difference to women going through difficult times. We invite everyone to donate and then come along to the fair.”

The fair will be held on Thursday, February 14. Donations should be made before the close of business on February 12.
