Eighteen members of the newly established 15-Mile Adventist Church (Central Papua Conference) received certificates after completing a four-hour communication workshop on August 2.
The training, conducted by family life leader Kathleen Morima, was designed to equip participants with practical skills for small group ministry. Sessions focused on public speaking, understanding the audience and interpreting non-verbal cues—all considered essential tools for effective communication and leadership.
“We have the potential; it just needs training to equip us for better communication,” said Ms Morima. “Communication is the foundation of strong relationships within our church.”
Participant Kiabe Kin said the workshop opened new insights for him. “I’ve never fully understood the type of audience that I was speaking to, but this has equipped me to communicate clearly for their level,” he reflected.
As a new church area, 15-Mile Adventist Church aims to strengthen small group ministry as a means of building unity, fostering spiritual growth and reaching out to the community. The participants who completed the training are expected to take up leadership roles in their groups in the coming weeks.
Further leadership workshops are being planned to continue building capacity in the church.
