Mums At The Table has launched its first North Island group in New Zealand.

The Wellington Mums At The Table group officially opened this month, partnering with Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church.

“We’re thrilled to see Wellington become home to our newest Mums At The Table group,” said Melody Tan, project manager of Mums At The Table. “Parenting can feel isolating, and we want to make sure every mum has a community around her—the village it takes to raise a mum.”

The ministry supports mothers through friendship and practical parenting resources. The launch marks an exciting milestone for Mums At The Table, expanding its reach to connect and support mums in the North Island for the first time. The ministry has a South Island group in Invercargill, which was established at the end of 2020.

“We saw in Mums At The Table a ministry that speaks directly into the everyday realities of motherhood. Many mums are carrying heavy loads—physically, emotionally and spiritually—and often feel isolated,” said Rutendo Urenje, volunteer moderator for the Wellington Mums At The Table group.

“Our hope is to build a strong, safe space for mums where they feel seen, valued and supported, and provide connection points for mums who might otherwise feel isolated. It aligns beautifully with our church’s mission to serve our community in practical, life-giving ways. We believe when mums are supported, whole families and communities thrive.”

The Wellington launch follows successful groups already established in Australia and in Invercargill. The new Wellington group attracted more than 50 mums to its online community on Facebook within the first two days of advertising. In-person meet-ups have already been organised and scheduled.

The group is starting with monthly themed online and in-person activities based on health principles such as nutrition, exercise, water and sunshine. This will culminate with a Health & Wholeness Expo at the church next year.

“It is our vision that alongside Mums At The Table, we as Capital Church can be an impact for good in the community as well as have meaningful interactions and growing friendships. As a pastor, I always welcome opportunities to make new connections and be of service to our community at large,” said the church’s pastor Kirsten Lundqvist.

Mums At The Table groups provide safe, welcoming spaces where mothers can find connection, encouragement and practical support—whether through playgroups, park meet-ups, café catch-ups or special events.
