The Ellen G White/Seventh-day Adventist Research Centre at Avondale University will mark its 50th anniversary next week.

Held concurrently with the anniversary celebrations will be the Legacy Maker Symposium, which will explore the continuing relevance and legacy of Ellen White’s ministry today, highlighting themes of reform, courage in the face of challenges and our unique calling.

Guest speakers for the symposium are White Estate director Dr Merlin Burt, White Estate associate directors Dr Theodore Levterov and Pastor Dwain Esmond, Australian Union Conference (AUC) president Dr Brendan Pratt, AUC ministerial association secretary Pastor Lyndelle Peterson, and Research Centre director Pastor Mark Pearce.

Established following action by the Australasian Division Executive Committee on December 17, 1974, the Avondale-based centre was described as the “fourth such outreach of the Ellen G White Estate” in a 1976 Record article (May 3). It officially opened on February 22, 1976, with Dr Arthur Patrick serving as inaugural director.

A major function of the centre has been preserving key historical resources while strengthening understanding of Ellen White’s life, ministry and prophetic role. It provides an invaluable research tool for Avondale students.

The activities will be held in-person and online on May 21-23. For more information visit the Ellen G White/SDA Research Centre website.
