The property department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is restoring a heritage-listed home located on the same road as the Division headquarters in Wahroonga, Sydney.
The four-bedroom Federation-style weatherboard home dates back to around 1915—one of a number of cottages built at that time to house church staff. Renovations to the property began in January after the passage of time had left the house in need of significant repair.
“The house was in very poor condition and had been split into two flats,” explained Lorin Bradford, manager of the Division Property Trust. “As we are also renewing many of the houses in the area, we felt it was fitting to recognise the past and preserve a piece of our heritage.”

The extensive works have included a new roof, restoration of the wrap-around veranda and a full interior refurbishment while retaining key historic features including fireplaces, architraves and picture rails. An ensuite has been added, along with an extended kitchen and dining area at the rear of the house.
The renovation is nearing completion, with restoration of the garage expected to be finalised before the end of the year. Once complete, the house will be sold, with proceeds directed to The Quarters development—a housing project designed for Avondale University nursing students and Sydney Adventist Hospital staff.
“The Quarters will provide more affordable living for San workers and Avondale nursing students, thereby supporting the mission of these two entities,” Mr Bradford added.
