South Pacific Division (SPD) president Pastor Glenn Townend acknowledged the service of former Australian Union Conference (AUC) CFO Peter Cameron and president Pastor Terry Johnson on the final evening of the AUC constituency meeting.

Mr Cameron was presented with a citation for his many years of service to the Adventist Church by former president Pastor Terry Johnson. His wife Janelle Cameron was also recognised.

“[Peter’s] commitment to service and financial acumen combined with his focus on mission to ensure the Church in Australia has been blessed by his leadership,” said Pastor Johnson, reading from the citation. “Peter’s knowledge and experience of church processes and procedures, and dedication to stewardship has meant that he has been able to ensure conferences and then the Union has been resourced for mission, and Peter’s ability to connect with people across ages and backgrounds is reflected in the high regard in which he is held by the AUC finance team and his colleagues across the entire country.”

Mr Cameron started his employment with the Adventist Church in 1975 when he was employed by Sanitarium Health Food Company as a store clerk in Brisbane. He went on to hold managerial roles, and in 1985 was appointed senior clerk in the Sanitarium business office in Cooranbong, New South Wales.

In 1989 he accepted the role of assistant accountant, and in 1993 he was appointed as the Western Australian Conference accountant. In 1995, Mr Cameron was appointed secretary-treasurer, a position he held until 2003 when he was appointed by the AUC to serve as assistant secretary-treasurer. In 2004 he became associate chief financial officer.

Mr Cameron served as acting CFO for the Union from 2016 to 2017, before being appointed CFO, a role he held until his retirement this year.

Pastor Johnson is also farewelling the AUC, having been appointed SPD director for Ministry and Strategy, French and Youth, after serving the past four years as AUC president. Pastor Johnson will start his new role after the constituency meeting.

“We appreciate [Terry’s] skills and abilities,” Pastor Townend said, “Thank you for [your] dedication. We pray that you would be uplifted and filled with the Holy Spirit during this transition.”
