Two churches in Kavieng district, New Britain New Ireland Mission (Papua New Guinea), joined the global celebration of the first-ever World Ambassador Day on April 5.
The joint event was organised by the God Tell club from Balgai church and the Maranatha club from Meltan church. With support from local members, the program ran from Sabbath morning to evening, concluding with a cultural celebration.
The initiative was part of a new worldwide emphasis launched by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to engage Ambassador-age youth (typically 16-21) through spiritual connection, leadership and community involvement. A total of 57 Ambassadors attended the local celebration.
Guest speaker Jocabeth Pomaleau—former women’s and children’s ministries director for Papua New Guinea Union Mission—delivered the Sabbath message on the theme “Live for Impact”. Drawing on research from her time at Pacific Adventist University, she highlighted the vulnerability of youth in this age group and challenged attendees to value themselves and their spiritual calling.
“You are an Ambassador for God’s kingdom,” she said. “If you choose to love God, the love of God will compel you to love others too.”
Minister Pomaleau concluded by distributing decision cards, encouraging Ambassadors to grow spiritually and embrace their identity as people chosen to make a difference.
In the evening, six cultural groups presented musical performances in their vernacular languages using traditional instruments. Some re-enacted stories of how early missionaries brought the Adventist message to their regions.
Church representatives were also present, including New Britain New Ireland Mission communication director Minister Lee Kotoveke, Papua New Guinea Union Mission IT systems administrator Clive Nawe and district director Pastor Samson Bengin.
Noelyn Laklen, an Ambassador ministry staff member, thanked everyone who participated. “I’m grateful for how this first global celebration turned out,” she said. “It’s encouraging to see the department recognised alongside other youth ministries. We’re already looking forward to future gatherings.”
