After cinematic release in Australia and New Zealand during 2024, a film about the origins of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is being released on multiple streaming platforms on April 30.
The Hopeful received encouraging results at the box office and since then church members who missed out have been asking how they can watch it.
“The Hopeful’s upcoming April 30 release on major platforms across Australia and New Zealand is a testament to the power of the Adventist story, with its strong themes of hope and health,” said the Emmy-award-winning director of the film, Kyle Portbury. “Having first connected with audiences in cinemas, the film’s expansion to these major platforms reaffirms that stories of conviction and perseverance resonate deeply. We’re thrilled for more people to experience The Hopeful through these incredible partners.”
The film debuted in 900 cinemas across the United States and ranked in the top 10 during opening weekend. Screenings in Australia and New Zealand were extended up to seven weeks in some places.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division worked closely with Christian film distributor Heritage Films to achieve a well-orchestrated roll-out in 2024, and both entities are now excited for the opportunities created by launching onto streaming platforms.
“If The Hopeful does well on mainstream platforms it opens the door for the next story and the next. It’s an opportunity to once again create space for conversation,” said Mr Portbury.
Given the success of The Hopeful’s release in Australia and New Zealand, and the ground work laid by the Adventist Church and Hope Channel International in supporting the project, negotiations for cinematic releases in Mexico and Brazil are underway.
