The executive committee of the Northern Australian Conference voted last night to cancel its 2020 Big Camp, which was due to be held June 26 to July 4.
“We regret having to make the decision to cancel our Big Camp as it is such a blessing to so many in our Conference,” said Conference president Pastor Darren Slade.
“While this will be disappointing for many of our members, the priority at this time is to stem the spread of the coronavirus so that we can again experience the freedom to worship and socialise together. Borders may be shut, businesses closed and face-to-face church gatherings prohibited but that in no way prevents us from worshipping with and encouraging one another using other means.
“God is as close to us in our homes as He is in our church buildings and Big Camp event,” Pastor Slade continued. “I have seen over the last couple of weeks how innovative our Northern Australian Adventist members are. When a door closes, they look for a window! This change of circumstances, which has resulted in cancelling Big Camp, will not discourage our folk in their walk with Jesus or reaching out to those around them via electronic means. Nothing can separate us from our God.”
The cancellation of the Northern Australian Big Camp follows recent decisions by Australian conferences to cancel Easter camps at North NSW, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia.
