Seventh-day Adventist young people from the Buimo Road Adventist Church (Papua New Guinea) were among several thousand young Adventists who participated in Global Youth Day (GYD) activities on March 16.

Following the day’s theme of “Adopt”, the Buimo Road youth conducted a special Sabbath program, inviting the entire town of Eriku. More than 200 homeless and disabled people from the town were treated to a hearty meal served by the young people following the program.

Most of the homeless people who attended were children, in particular boys aged seven to 15. Among these boys was 10-year-old Jorden, who was openly moved to tears during the main service when the young people spoke about the unconditional love of God. After the service, Jorden was able to share his experiences growing up on the streets of Eriku, and his stories touched the heart of Benitha Thomas, who asked Jorden to come and be a part of her small family.

The program was conducted at the Morobe Special Education and Resource Centre, the home and learning place of those will special needs. Follow-up programs are now in place and will be carried out regularly by the young people.
