Christmas came a little early this year for Darling Downs Christian School (DDCS), whose primary choir won the Triple M Mayoral Carols by Candlelight Star Search competition.

The local radio station invited schools in the Toowoomba (Qld) area to submit a short video of their students singing a Christmas carol. Finalists were invited into the Darling Downs studio to sing live on-air.

Ten girls from DDCS performed a rendition of “Deck the Halls” in Triple M’s studio on Thursday, November 29. They were announced as winners of the competition in a post on the radio station’s Facebook page.

The children will go on to sing at the annual Mayor’s Christmas Carols on Sunday, December 9.

Darling Downs Christian School choir director Joshua Duffield said the students were very excited for the opportunity to sing live on-air and win the competition, and that they are now looking forward to singing at this week’s carols event.

“Great things do come in small packages,” added DDCS principal Adrian Fitzpatrick. “Our choir is evidence of this.”
