A student from an Adventist college was one of more than 250 of Victoria’s best and brightest students recognised at the Premier’s VCE Awards ceremony.

Madeleine Giacchi, a 2016 graduate from Gilson College, was presented with a Top All-Round VCE High Achiever award, given to students who achieved outstanding results in five or more of their subjects. Ms Giacchi also received a Study Award for Further Mathematics.

“I was very honoured and grateful to be recognised for this award,” said Ms Giacchi, who is now studying a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Monash University. “I was fortunate to have the support of my family throughout my schooling journey. They were always there to offer advice and assist me in achieving my best. I am forever grateful for all that they have done and the opportunities they have provided me.”

None of this would have happened without the help of her teachers, said Ms Giacchi. “The high level of dedication and enthusiasm displayed by teachers at Gilson College made my learning experience enjoyable. Their guidance and encouragement were instrumental in helping me get through Year 12.”

Gilson College principal, Mark Vodell, said the entire College community was proud of Madeleine and her achievements.

“I believe our College continues to achieve strong academic results because of great teamwork,” he said. “Firstly, there is the student who demonstrates diligence and enthusiasm to the academic program, secondly the guidance of dedicated teachers, and finally the encouragement of supportive parents—and Madeleine is a great example of this.”
