Movement: Cultivating and Multiplying Disciple-making Movements has been adopted as the new textbook for philosophy students at Sonoma Adventist College, Papua New Guinea.
Written by Sonoma chaplain Pastor Garry Laukei and published by Signs Publishing, the book was officially dedicated during a philosophy class on October 2. The event was attended by college dean Joe Benjamin, philosophy lecturer Joros Sawi and 68 early childhood and primary students.
“Since 2014, I have been teaching ‘Philosophy of Adventist Education’ and recently introduced the book Movement into the curriculum,” Mr Sawi said. “Movement presents the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church through a uniquely Papua New Guinean lens.
“For young teachers preparing to serve in Adventist primary and elementary schools, engaging with mission-oriented stories that reflect their cultural context is vital. I believe this approach will strengthen discipleship and deepen their understanding of the Church’s mission. Our Adventist schools remain the largest and longest-standing field of evangelism in Papua New Guinea, and contextualised learning can play a transformative role in advancing that mission.”
Mr Benjamin affirmed that Movement will help prepare teachers for mission beyond college life, highlighting the book’s practical methods for disciple-making and mission engagement.
Pastor Laukei expressed gratitude to God for His wisdom, knowledge and guidance in developing the book, acknowledged Dr Peter Roennfeldt for editing and thanked Signs Publishing for bringing the project to print.
