The New Britain New Ireland Mission (NBNIM) successfully conducted a local church treasurers’ training in Kavieng, Kimbe and Kokopo on January 26 and 27.
The training included local church treasurers and pastors, district directors and Volunteers in Action. It was facilitated by the NBNIM treasury team and departmental directors.
Hundreds of participants travelled from various locations by sea, air and land to attend the training.
Topics covered in the training included the role of treasurers, safeguarding church funds, reporting and record management, collaboration with church boards, proper methods for handling church finances, land acquisition, banking and savings, and preparing for audits and financial reports.
Participants actively engaged in the sessions, asking questions and sharing insights. One attendee noted that many local church treasurers lack accounting knowledge and recommended additional training and the development of standardised reporting templates to assist them.
Facilitators also took note of the challenges raised by participants at the local church level for further discussion at the NBNIM headquarters.
At the end of the training, attendees expressed appreciation for the valuable sessions and returned to their churches equipped to apply what they had learned.
