Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) hosted what is believed to be the inaugural regional test for the Pathfinder Bible Experience in Australia on November 22.
The Pathfinder Bible Experience is the official North American Division Bible study program for Pathfinders and encourages Pathfinders to study and memorise large portions of Scripture each year. Teams of six members from five different clubs came together at Parramatta church to test their knowledge of Romans and 1 Corinthians, the two books chosen for this year’s cycle.
Pathfinder clubs across the region selected six teens for each team, appointed a coach, chose a team name, and then embarked on an intensive study of the Bible. The young people had spent months preparing and there are four tests to be held throughout the year.
One team joined the program virtually from Tasmania and all the teams did really well according Pastor Dejan Stojkovic, GSC Youth ministry director, who also said the program marked the beginning of something special.
“While the concept may seem new, its foundation is deeply rooted in the Adventist Church’s long-standing commitment to valuing the study of God’s Word,” said Pastor Stojkovic. “This initiative has been designed to bring that focus back into the hearts of our youth. As part of Greater Sydney Conference’s broader strategy, one of our core goals is to raise the spiritual temperature across our church, and we in the youth department believe that the Pathfinder Bible Experience is a wonderful way to do that.”
Pastor Alban Matohiti, GSC president, served as the main reader of the questions. Additionally, Nadelle Manners, GSC CFO, delivered the worship.
“The impact of this initiative is far-reaching. It’s not just about knowledge; it’s about returning to the basics of knowing God’s Word. Through this process, entire families have been engaging in Bible study together, and it’s our hope that not only will this help the youth achieve high scores, but that it will deepen their relationship with God and foster spiritual growth in their homes,” said Pastor Stojkovic.
“This is just the beginning, and with hope, we look forward to other regions of this beautiful country joining us. Together, we can spread the blessings of this experience throughout our union, and perhaps even to the wider division.
“If your club would like to join, you can still gather your team, start studying Romans and 1 Corinthians, and join us for the next test on February 22, 2025.”
