Adventist Schools Australia (ASA) is continuing to closely monitor the advice of government and health authorities in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, with schools to remain open at this stage.
“While some are calling for the closure of schools due to the outbreak, we are following the recommendations of the Prime Minister and state leaders who have made it clear that, on the basis of expert medical advice, schools should remain open at this time,” ASA director Dr Daryl Murdoch said.
However, if the government does decide to close the nation’s schools, the Adventist education system will be well prepared, with Conference education leaders putting the necessary management plans in place.
“Our schools are preparing to provide innovative learning opportunities to ensure that students’ learning outcomes are effectively supported,” Dr Murdoch said.
“The majority of school families value that our schools remain open as parents maintain their ability to work and in many instances provide essential services such as health care.
“Our number one priority is the health and wellbeing of our students and staff. Adventist Schools Australia in consultation with Conference education leaders will continue to seek advice and act in the best interests of the communities we serve.”
