Four members of Alotau Town Pathfinder Club’s friend class combined Bible lessons with outdoor skills during a camp on Gesila Island in Papua New Guinea’s Samarai District, September 25–27.

Themed “Faith in the Wild”, the camp was led by teachers Esther Yokie and Claris Mitayan, with guest speaker Pastor Jasper Mathew and a support team. The camp gave the children opportunities to build confidence, develop practical skills and deepen their faith while exploring God’s creation.

Worship sessions explored obedience, trust, courage and leadership through the stories of Noah, Abraham, Daniel, David and Moses. The messages encouraged the children to trust God and stand firm when facing challenges.

Practical activities included identifying island wildlife, hiking and learning wilderness survival skills, such as finding food, building shelters, making fires and recognising local medicinal plants.

A Saturday evening bonfire provided time for games, singing and fellowship. On Sunday, a “Track and Trail” activity challenged the Pathfinders to follow 15 markers made from natural materials to a hidden snack treasure. They also hiked to the island’s highest point and completed all five requirements for their swimming honour.
