A week-long Adventist Community Service (ACS) conference in Papua New Guinea’s Laiagam district encouraged peace and spiritual renewal in a community affected by tribal conflict.
More than 400 church members, Bible workers and pastors attended the July 12–18 event in Enga Province, held under the theme “Integrated for Mission, Grounded in the Bible and Focused on the Mission”.
The conference was held against the backdrop of ongoing tribal conflict in the district, which has disrupted church life and hindered mission. “The Laiagam District of Enga province has ventured into tribalism and many illicit practices for so many years now, scattering church members abroad and affecting the progress of Evangelism,” said provincial area supervisor for New Ireland Pastor Paul Bopalo.
Throughout the week, the event promoted messages of peace and encouraged people to remain grounded in the Bible.
Newly appointed district director Minister Manase Namaio presented the evening messages throughout the week, while Minister Joel Jeffery led the morning worship services.
The event concluded with the baptism of three people, including Pastor John Sikipet, an ordained minister who had served in another Christian denomination for 40 years.
Following his baptism, Pastor Sikipet expressed his desire to get involved in mission. “You will train me how to become an Adventist missionary,” he said to Minister Namaio.
Reflecting on the event, Minister Namaio said the conference strengthened the spiritual lives of church members. “It brings teamwork, unity and motivation, and rejuvenates their commitment to mission.”
He added that he believes God will continue to lead the district as members share the gospel throughout the region.
