Australian-based Adventist ministry Operation Life has announced a new partnership with Mt Diamond Adventist Secondary School in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, to revitalise the school’s 100-hectare farmland.
The school, which currently houses and educates more than 900 boarding students, has struggled to maintain its extensive agricultural grounds. Operation Life will now step in to provide the management, funding and expertise needed to re-establish a thriving, productive farm.
“Our goal is to turn this land back into a blessing for both the students and the wider community,” said Jim Rennie, CEO of Operation Life Australia.
The project is launching immediately with a one-hectare pilot phase to facilitate full property planning and staff recruitment. Once fully operational, the farm will produce:
- Staple crops: corn, sweet potato, tapioca, watermelon and pumpkins;
- Fresh produce: pac choi, salad greens, wong bok (Chinese cabbage), tomatoes and more.
“The impact of this farm extends far beyond the school gates,” Mr Rennie said. “Income generated from the harvest will directly fund Operation Life’s critical humanitarian work in PNG, including the child rescue sanctuary and its community feeding programs. The venture aligns with our philosophy not only to rescue but empower self-sufficiency.”
Operation Life is a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. To ensure this project flourishes, the ministry is currently seeking a volunteer farm manager to oversee daily operations on the ground, and financial partners to support the project with funding for equipment, seeds and infrastructure.
“This is an opportunity to assist the school with food security while creating a sustainable engine for our child rescue work and PNG projects,” Mr Rennie added.
