Church leaders are calling for urgent prayer for Sonoma Adventist College (SAC) in East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, following reports of violent clashes between students and nearby communities.

According to local sources, one student has been hospitalised with serious injuries, and two community members have lost their lives. Police have been deployed to restore order, but the situation remains tense.

Leaders from the Papua New Guinea Union Mission and the South Pacific Division (SPD) are appealing for prayer for the college and their community, and for peace to be restored to the campus and surrounding villages.

“Please pray for Sonoma—that God brings calm to the people’s hearts,” said SPD president Pastor Glenn Townend.

Sonoma Adventist College is operated by the Papua New Guinea Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and provides coeducational tertiary education, preparing students for service in fields such as agriculture, construction, business, education and theology.
