Devotionals presented to delegates during the Papua New Guinea Union Mission (PNGUM) 17th business session encouraged them to go and make disciples while waiting for Christ to return.

Leaders from the South Pacific Division (SPD) and PNGUM, when presenting devotionals on Sunday and Monday, spoke on the session’s theme “Jesus Is Coming I will Go”.

SPD secretary Pastor Mike Sikuri on Sunday morning spoke on the topic “I Will Go with God- Communion with God”. He shared his life experience, his journey with God, and read some Bible texts that demonstrated that God wanted humanity to have a good life and that He is our Protector, Provider, Partner and a Promise Keeper.

Pastor Sikuri urged everyone to spend time with God as it “keeps us humble”.

SPD vice-president Pastor Maveni Kaufononga’s sermonette was based on the topic “I Will Go because Jesus loves me”.

Pastor Kaufononga cited John 13:15, 1 John 3:1 and Romans 8:17 and encouraged everyone to lead someone to Christ while waiting for His return.

Pastor Kaufononga said: “We will go because Jesus loves us. Jesus put us where we are so we can disciple those around us.”

Meanwhile, SPD president Pastor Glenn Townend encouraged the delegates to go on God’s mission in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Townend spoke on unity in the spirit and read from Acts 2:42–47. He also talked about the internal threats and external opposition to the church in Jerusalem, reading from Acts 3 and 4, 6:1–7, 12:1–19 and Acts 15:1,2,5.

Newly-appointed PNGUM president Pastor Danny Philip, in his sermon on Monday evening, said the church must be united in God’s mission.

Pastor Philip said: “God is calling His church to be united in the midst of adversity. Executive Committees and church boards must be united. I appeal to all leaders who are here at the 17th Business Session to be united in the mission of the church.”

Citing Ephesians 4:1–3, he also said unity was a powerful way of empowering the mission of the church.

He said unity reflected Christ’s love and fulfilled the Great Commission when the Gospel was spread effectively, adding unity overcame challenges and obstacles with strength and resilience.

Pastor Philip also said the church must rely on the Holy Spirit for empowerment and mobilise resources for God’s mission.
