An enditnow program with 80 plus attendees on the remote Tanga Island in Lihir district of the New Britain New Ireland Mission has ended with 11 baptisms. The Lihir district women’s ministry team made a week long visit from August 21-26, having to travel by boat with district pastors, sharing an open air evangelism program and messages of prevention of abuse against the elderly and disabled.
Adventism reached Tanga island fairly recently, with the work progressing under volunteer area pastor Laurie Sita.
During the week, the women’s ministry team continued visiting disabled and elderly people in the community, sharing basic goods and praying with them. They also presented seminars and exhorted the Tanga Islanders to end violence and abuse, especially against elderly people as they are made in God’s image. The program was well organised and presented in a way that spoke to the spiritual and physical needs of the people.
Minister Sita appreciated the message and said “The messages were very powerful for it was the first of its kind for the Islanders who received a message which rejuvenated the life of the participants and people visited.”
In one of the sessions Serene Arnold shared: “This program [has helped] us to recognise our duty as members of Tanga community, to assist the elderly and disabled who are in need—to show love with the passion Christ has for them.”
The participants who attended the program were really blessed by the message and program conducted by the Adventist women’s ministry.
“Now I can see the smiles on people’s faces when I meet them which indicates satisfactions with the impact program conducted by the Adventist women,” Minister Sita said.
The program was culminated with the baptism of 11 people, while others stood for an appeal for a future baptism.
