New Britain New Ireland Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Papua New Guinea, recently hosted its first-ever digital discipleship conference in partnership with Sonoma Adventist College.

More than 300 local church communication leaders attended the event, held April 18-21 at Sonoma. It was designed to equip participants with the practical skills to report on activities happening in their churches and communities—through writing, photography and video.

The program was organised by Mission communication director Minister Lee Kotoveke in partnership with Sonoma. A variety of local facilitators held sessions on topics such as news writing, photography, videography, social media storytelling and the ethical use of AI.

“Not only is the training timely and relevant but it is imperative in this modern digital age,” said Barrie Abel (Jr), a senior theology lecturer at Sonoma. “Considering the bulk of biblical misinformation and the speed it is going on the internet, the three angels’ messages must rapidly fly online and participants have been inspired to do just that.”
