New Britain New Ireland Mission (NBNIM) is improving its communication infrastructure as part of a broader strategy to support mission work and digital connectivity across the region.

Under the “service arena” of Papua New Guinea Union Mission’s (PNGUM) 2022–2025 strategic plan, NBNIM has prioritised internet and network upgrades to assist local workers and ministries. Led by NBNIM communication director Minister Lee Kotoveke, the project includes technical support and infrastructure repairs across East New Britain and New Ireland provinces.

To support the initiative, NBNIM invited PNGUM IT systems administrator Clive Nawe to visit the Mission’s Kokopo head office in East New Britain, where he spent several weeks conducting network assessments, repairing staff laptops and assisting with computer maintenance at Kambubu Adventist Secondary School.

The pair also travelled to New Ireland, where they worked to repair the office’s Zoom equipment, enabling workers to better connect with Mission leadership for meetings and training. “Improving our communication systems is essential to spreading the gospel and supporting our workers,” said Pastor Paul Bopalo, provincial area supervisor for New Ireland.

While in Kavieng, the team met with local workers to identify key challenges and made recommendations for improving internet reliability and access. Meven Boaz, manager of Kavieng town, acknowledged their efforts and expressed his support for the work of the Church in the area.

According to Pastor Bopalo, the visit was an encouraging step forward. “We’re grateful for the support and look forward to further upgrades that will strengthen our work and ministry across the region.”
