Thirty-four ADRA participants from across the South Pacific Division have recently participated in emergency management training.
Held at Avondale University (Cooranbong, New South Wales), the training marked an initial step in strengthening the capabilities of ADRA’s emergency management personnel, focusing on foundational skills with plans for advanced training slated for 2025.
Over four days, participants engaged in comprehensive training designed to enhance their understanding of their respective National Emergency Management Plans ahead of the tropical cyclone season. The program culminated with a tabletop exercise, enabling attendees to apply their knowledge in a simulated scenario.
The training emphasised the importance of improving knowledge and confidence in the ADRA Emergency Risk Management System. Participants gained skills in managing humanitarian projects, meeting established standards, and coordinating with government agencies, donors and local church volunteers.
“By tailoring the training to the individual National Emergency Management Plans of the participants, we ensured that everyone left with practical skills and insights that would benefit their communities during emergencies,” ADRA South Pacific director Greg Young said.
“The event not only aimed to equip ADRA personnel with the necessary tools for effective coordination and response but also to inspire a collective effort towards better preparedness across the Division.”
