More than 600 Adventurers and their families gathered at the Cataract Activity Centre for the Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) Adventurer Camporee from November 1 to 3. Despite the occasional downpour, the spirit of the event stayed true to its theme, A Wonderful Journey, as Adventurers and leaders alike embraced the adventure, rain or shine.
The weekend was packed with group activities, educational awards and treasured moments with friends. One of the highlights was a petting zoo run by Pastor Daron Pratt, where Adventurers had the chance to interact with a variety of animals, including baby chickens and ducks, lambs and goats. Even when some of the older members were tempted to head back to camp for shelter, the young Adventurers were eager to stay and experience every moment prepared for them.
Pastor Andrew Olsen, most recently working in the Youth department in Western Australia, delivered messages that especially resonated with the young attendees. One parent shared, “My kids told me, ‘I understood everything Pastor was saying,’” highlighting the impact of Pastor Andrew’s ability to connect with young audiences.
As part of the camporee, each Adventurer received some unique keepsakes—a group photo of all the attendees and a fridge magnet symbolising their journey with God. The magnet included space for each child to write their name as a way of committing to their walk with God, and it was encouraged that families display these on their fridges.
“This little memento serves as a reminder that their journey is not only a personal one but also something their whole family can support and cherish together,” shared Pastor Dejan Stojkovic, GSC Youth director.
“In the end, A Wonderful Journey was about more than just the weekend itself; it was a reminder of the most important journey we are all on today—the journey with God. We are grateful to everyone who made this camporee possible, to Pastor Daron Pratt for bringing joy with the petting zoo, and to Pastor Andrew Olsen for his inspiring messages. Thank you to all the Adventurers and their families for bringing such energy and enthusiasm. We look forward to many more adventures together!” said Pastor Stojkovic.
