Hurstville Adventist School (Sydney, NSW) student Marina Chen has won a state art competition.
The year 4 student was declared the winner of the Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales’ (AISNSW) 2024 World Teachers’ Day art competition.
The statewide competition recognised the important role of teachers in the development of students. Embracing the theme of “Not all heroes wear capes”, students from independent schools across the state submitted entries across multiple artistic forms including painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, mixed media and collage.
Winning the Primary category, Marina was grateful to all her teachers from the past.
“When I did the artwork, I was thinking of all the teachers who I’ve had in the past and how they have helped me and made me feel special,” Marina said.
Hurstville Adventist School principal Erika Ratu praised Marina’s success, sharing her admiration for the exceptional skill displayed in the competition.
“Marina’s talent is truly exceptional, and if you look at the detail in her artwork and the message she is portraying, you can see that talent,” Mrs Ratu said. “I’m thrilled that we had the opportunity to involve her in a competition where her abilities could truly shine.”
AISNSW chief executive Margery Evans commended Marina on her achievements. “I congratulate Marina for winning the Primary category,” Ms Evans said.
She stated that the winning entrants captured their teachers’ knowledge, passion and commitment.
The winning artworks will be featured on October 25, helping to promote AISNSW’s World Teachers’ Day.
