The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Australia is gearing up for this year’s ADRA Appeal, which it hopes will raise $A1 million for those in need.

Volunteers in every Australian state and territory will be publicly raising funds during October through doorknocking and public place collections. This year also marks the agency’s fourth virtual doorknock, which enables people to raise funds online.

The theme of the appeal is “Compelled by Love”. Funds raised will go towards supporting and empowering more than 55,000 people in Australia and overseas who are most vulnerable to violence and abuse by improving their literacy, education and livelihood opportunities so that they can stand against mistreatment, realise their potential and thrive.

Further abroad, the funds raised will help people access clean water, education and agriculture training right around the world through long-term development projects in countries from Zambia to Vanuatu.

“Because of the blessings we have received, we feel compelled by love to help people flourish–both locally in our Australian neighbourhoods and overseas in poorer countries,” ADRA Australia CEO Mark Webster said.

* The offering collected in churches this Sabbath, October 7, will go towards covering the cost of running the appeal. For more information about the ADRA Appeal, visit www.adra.org.au.
