Adventist pioneers who helped establish the church in Kerenda, Imboungu District, were recognised during a program held on December 28, 2025, in Southern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea.
The event acknowledged the early leaders who introduced the Adventist message to the area in 1963, beginning in Togoba and later extending to Kerenda. Among those recognised were Chief Yaku Nolepo and his wife, the late Kemapu, along with a group of elders and community leaders who supported the introduction of the new faith.
According to organisers, the program was designed to honour the pioneers’ contribution while also highlighting the responsibility of the younger generation to continue the church’s mission in the district.
Western Highlands Mission president Pastor Andrew Opis led a prayer of dedication during the program, committing both the pioneers and younger members to continued faithfulness and service.
Church members reflected on the significance of the pioneers’ role in laying the foundations of the Adventist Church in the area and expressed appreciation for their commitment and sacrifice.
The program concluded with a reaffirmation of unity and commitment to continue advancing the Adventist message in Kerenda and surrounding communities.
