A week-long evangelistic campaign, held April 13-19 in Malakul village, Pomio District (New Britain New Ireland Mission, PNG), drew more than 500 attendees and concluded with the baptism of 14 people.
Church members from across the district travelled by foot, boat and vehicle to attend the event, which was themed “Almost Home”. Guest speaker Pastor Gibson Yambi, provincial area supervisor for East New Britain, presented evening messages on end-time events and the hope of Jesus’ return.
“The sermon was very powerful—it reaffirmed my faith in Jesus and made me eager for His second coming,” said Elder Ben Togaliurea. “I want this message to be repeated again.”
In addition to the evening meetings, the program also featured daily training sessions. Pastor Yambi spoke to youth about relationships and dating, while district director Minister Simau Mike offered sessions on church leadership. Minister Enosh Jeffery presented on preaching and spiritual gifts, encouraging lay members to share biblical truths in a way that connects with the local context.
“Always understand the context of your audience,” said Minister Jeffery. “Avoid controversial topics and blend the message in a way that helps people accept Jesus Christ.”
Inspired by the training, Elder Moses Boss noted, “If we use these same methods as laypeople, we can preach just like our pastors.”
The program also included Total Member Involvement (TMI) initiatives, with participants visiting widows and the sick, and completing a community service project to dig a pit toilet for the local aid post.
Forty additional individuals responded to an appeal during the final meeting, expressing their desire to prepare for baptism. “The congregation was truly blessed,” said Minister Jeffery, “and everyone returned to their home churches uplifted by the experience.”
