In the lead-up to Adventist Global Youth Day (GYD) on March 15, youth from Kerenda Seventh-day Adventist Church and Kupoa branch church in Southern Highlands, Papua New Guinea, organised a road clearance and drain cleaning project along the Highlands Highway on March 14.

A 100-metre section of the road had drainage issues that caused debris buildup, obstructing both pedestrians and vehicles. Recognising the safety concerns, the youth ministry organised a volunteer team to clear the area, improving accessibility for students and residents.

Equipped with tools, the volunteers worked throughout the day to restore proper drainage and clear debris from the roadside. According to Minister Harry Nasi, despite the challenging conditions, the group remained committed to ensuring the path was safe for daily commuters.

Reflecting on the initiative, a youth leader from Kerenda shared that the project was an opportunity to serve the community while demonstrating practical Christian values.

Following GYD 2025, the Kerenda Seventh-day Adventist Youth Department aims to continue engaging in community service projects, encouraging young people to take an active role in improving their surroundings.
