Three students from a Seventh-day Adventist School in Tonga achieved top results in a soroban (abacus) competition for all schools in the Nuku’alofa District on August 12.

Hilliard Memorial School students Solomone Tukia and Mohulamu Tau (both in Class 3) and Pakileata Pomale (Class 5) received gold medals in the competition. Other students also won prizes and Hilliard ranked the third highest school overall.

In the week prior to the competition, the students camped at the school to get in some extra preparation. Their parents provided support by bringing breakfast, lunch and dinner to the school for the students.

Hilliard teacher Fipe Lotaki praised God for the students’ success. One of the parents said, ‘We are so happy for the results . . . We thank the teachers for their prayers. Together we achieved such results.”
